Our Services
IBC Transportation & Logistics
We handle pickup and delivery of IBC totes across the Midwest. Our dedicated fleet and experienced logistics team ensure your containers move safely, on schedule, and at competitive rates.
Where We Operate
Detailed Midwest Service Area
Grand Rapids IBC operates from our facility at 902 Scribner Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504. From this central location, we serve customers across five Midwest states with regular pickup and delivery routes. Our geographic reach covers the major manufacturing and distribution corridors of the Great Lakes region.
For locations outside our primary service area, we partner with trusted regional carriers to extend coverage. Whether you are in downtown Detroit or rural Wisconsin, we can coordinate transportation for your IBC totes.
Our route planning system optimizes delivery schedules to minimize drive time and maximize load efficiency. We consolidate partial loads on common routes to reduce per-unit shipping costs for LTL customers. Regular routes run on fixed weekly schedules, with ad-hoc pickups and deliveries available on request.

When to Choose LTL
LTL shipping is ideal when you need fewer than 56 totes and are flexible on delivery timing. We consolidate your containers with other shipments heading in the same direction, which reduces your per-unit shipping cost while maintaining safe handling standards.
- Orders of 1-55 totes
- Budget-conscious shipments where timing is flexible
- Regular route destinations (lower per-unit cost)
- Recurring smaller deliveries on a fixed schedule
When to Choose FTL
FTL is the best value for large orders and provides the fastest, most reliable delivery. Your totes get a dedicated truck with no intermediate stops, reducing handling risk and ensuring on-time arrival.
- Orders of 56+ totes for maximum per-unit savings
- Time-sensitive deliveries that need guaranteed dates
- Facility cleanouts with large volumes of used totes
- Recurring program deliveries on a fixed weekly schedule
Handling Procedures
Loading & Unloading Protocols
Proper handling during loading and unloading is critical for preventing container damage, spills, and workplace injuries. Our drivers and logistics personnel follow detailed standard operating procedures for every pickup and delivery.
Pre-Load Site Assessment
Before loading begins, our driver assesses the staging area for adequate space, surface conditions, overhead clearances, and forklift access. Any hazards or access limitations are documented and communicated to dispatch.
Forklift Loading Protocol
Totes are loaded using forklifts with rated capacity for the container weight (typically 2,500+ lbs per loaded tote). Fork entry from the pallet side only. Maximum travel speed of 5 mph. Containers are centered on forks before lifting. Double-stacking follows a bottom-heavy principle: heavier or more stable units on the bottom row.
Securing Procedures
Every tote is individually secured with rated ratchet straps. Edge protectors are placed at all strap contact points to prevent cage damage. Double-stacked loads use intermediate dunnage (plywood sheets) between rows and additional vertical restraints. Load checks are performed at the origin, and again after the first 50 miles of travel.
Unloading at Destination
Upon arrival, the driver confirms the delivery location with the receiving contact. Straps are released in a controlled sequence to prevent load shifting. Containers are unloaded one at a time using the customer's forklift or our liftgate. Each tote is placed at the designated staging area per the customer's instructions.
Damage Inspection
Both the driver and receiving party inspect containers during unloading. Any transit damage is photographed and documented on the delivery receipt. Damaged containers are replaced at no charge under our quality guarantee.
Safety First
Safe Handling & Special Procedures
IBC totes are bulky, heavy, and can contain residual liquids that shift during transit. Improper handling leads to damaged containers, spills, and safety hazards. Our team follows strict protocols to ensure every pickup and delivery is executed safely.
Residual Content Handling
Totes with residual contents are transported upright with caps and valves securely closed. If a container held hazardous materials, we follow DOT placarding and documentation requirements for the applicable hazard class.
Weather Protection
Open flatbed loads are tarped when rain, snow, or freezing conditions are forecast. This prevents water accumulation inside open-top containers and protects labels and cage surfaces from weather damage.
Hazmat Container Transport
Containers that previously held DOT-regulated hazardous materials require special handling. Our drivers hold hazmat endorsements and carry required shipping papers, emergency response guides, and spill containment equipment. Placards are displayed per 49 CFR requirements based on the residual hazard class.
Temperature Considerations
During winter months, containers with residual water-based contents may freeze during transit. We advise sellers to drain containers completely before pickup. For deliveries, we ensure cleaned containers are shipped dry to prevent ice damage to valves and gaskets.
Insurance & Liability Coverage
All shipments are fully insured from the moment containers are loaded at the origin to the point of final delivery. Our comprehensive coverage protects both your containers and our team throughout the transportation process.
Certificates of insurance are available on request. Additional insured endorsements can be provided for customers who require them.

We believe in keeping our customers informed at every stage of the transportation process. Here is what you can expect in terms of communication and visibility.

High-Volume Solutions
Bulk Transport & Scheduling Options
For high-volume customers, we offer dedicated transport solutions that reduce per-unit shipping costs and guarantee predictable scheduling. Our bulk transport programs are designed for businesses that move 50 or more totes per month.
Full Truckload (FTL)
56-60 totes per load. Best per-unit rate. Ideal for large purchases, facility cleanouts, or recycling program pickups. Free delivery within Michigan on qualifying orders. Dedicated truck with no intermediate stops ensures fastest transit time.
Less-Than-Truckload (LTL)
10-55 totes. We consolidate partial loads with other shipments on the same route to reduce costs. Typical transit time is 3-5 business days. Available on all regular route days for the destination region.
Scheduled Route Service
Weekly or biweekly route stops for businesses with recurring IBC needs. We pick up empties and deliver reconditioned totes on a fixed schedule, reducing coordination overhead. Quantities can flex with 48 hours notice.
Expedited / Rush Service
Need totes urgently? Our expedited service can arrange same-day or next-day delivery within a 100-mile radius of Grand Rapids. Wider radius available with 24-hour advance notice. Rush fees apply based on distance and urgency.
Multi-Site Distribution
For companies with multiple facilities, we coordinate split deliveries from a single order. Totes are pre-sorted at our facility by destination and loaded in delivery sequence. This reduces shipping costs compared to individual orders for each location.
Route Optimization
Our logistics team uses route optimization software to plan the most efficient paths for every delivery run. This benefits our customers through lower shipping costs, more reliable delivery windows, and reduced carbon emissions per container transported.
Key elements of our route optimization include geographic clustering of deliveries to minimize deadhead miles, time-window coordination to meet customer receiving schedules, traffic pattern analysis for major metro areas, and seasonal adjustments for construction and weather conditions.
For LTL customers, route optimization is especially valuable. By consolidating multiple partial loads onto the same truck and sequencing delivery stops efficiently, we keep per-unit shipping costs competitive even for smaller orders.
